FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NVHCEF a registered charity?

Yes, we are. All of your donations will go towards health care in the Nicola Valley. You can view information about us and our most recent charity return on the Government of Canada Registered Charities Website.

Our BN/Registration Number is 888510443RR0001.

Does the NVHCEF deliver health care?

No. The foundation does not deliver any health care services or provide any patient care.

The NVHCEF is a fundraising and granting organization that supports health care providers in the Nicola Valley by providing funding for updated equipment.

Where does the money to grant funding come from?

The NVHCEF is the custodian of an endowment that has been accumulated through generous support and contributions from patrons, donors, and businesses over many years. Interest accrued from investing the endowment responsibly provides the NVHCEF with a budget for annual grants. The foundation also raises targeted funds specifically for larger projects, like the Emergency Room Expansion, the adult day care bus, and the portable ultrasound at the Nicola Valley Hospital.

Does the Board of Directors receive a salary or honorarium?

No. The NVHCEF is run by a volunteer board that takes no remuneration.

Does the NVHCEF receive funding from any level of government?

No. The NVHCEF is completely self-sustaining and independent. It does not receive any government funding whatsoever.

What type of donations do you accept?

The NVHCEF is set up to accept cheques and online donations. You can also donate publicly traded securities, or make an in memoriam donation. A bequest - as part of your will - is a way to leave a lasting legacy in the community. You can find more details about each option on our Donations page

How can I support the work of the NVHCEF?

If you or your organization would like to hold a fundraising event to benefit the NVHCEF, please notify us in advance so that we can offer our support and materials. Permission is required to promote or advertise the NVHCEF as the benefiting charity.

Will I get a tax receipt when I donate?

Donations of $20 or more qualify for a tax receipt. If you donate online via Canada Helps you will automatically receive your tax receipt via email. If you donate via cheque or other accepted method, you will receive a tax receipt directly from the foundation. Please visit our Donations page for more details.

Why should I donate to the NVHCEF rather than directly to organizations it supports?

When the NVHCEF receives a donation, the entire donation is used for granting purposes or to grow the size of the endowment – which in turn generates greater investment income that will be used in future grants. This way, our community has greater control over the spending of these donations, to ensure the biggest benefit for the residents of the Nicola Valley.
